When You're in a Style Funk

via
Hope y'all had a fabulous week! I'm actually off today which totally caught me off guard. Veteran's Day is one holiday that I always forget we observe at work so it was a super pleasant surprise! Today, I'm just planning on going to a spin class then totally treating myself and getting a manicure and a yummy latte.

Every few years I sort of get into a funk where I really dislike everything in my closet or at least the way that I'm styling it. This happened probably 3 years ago when I just felt really bored with everything I was wearing and now I'm getting that feeling again. I think I get into this mindset where I get afraid of super statement pieces and even though I think basics are so important, I definitely want to have way more fun with my wardrobe. Here are a couple tips that I follow personally when looking to "reinvent" my style:

1.) Dress and Purchase Intuitively-Really think about your style, your personality, what truly grabs your attention when it comes to fashion. Don't dress a certain way because it's the trend or because it's how your peers are dressing. Get in touch with your personal fashion sense that is a true expression of you!
2.) Get Inspired-Whenever I grow tired of how I'm dressing, I always find it helpful to go to other blogs or Pinterest or even get inspired by fashion from the past! Look at fashion from the 60's or 70's and also look at fashion worldwide. I also have been really into European fashion and blogs because I just love their classic style! I also love getting inspiration just by flipping through store magazines and seeing how the models are styled. The Anthropologie magazine is one of my favorites!
3.) Play with Prints & Patterns-Something that I feel like I'm lacking in my wardrobe is a lot of fun bright colors and fun prints. I think adding more of those elements into my every day style will really add fun dimension!
4.) Find Unique Pieces-When shopping, even though this goes against everything I always say about finding good basics, now I'm trying to find some really good STATEMENT pieces! A few stores that I always turn to when I want something truly "unique" and fun--Anthropologie (pretty much my favorite store especially recently), Asos, Zara, ModCloth. Those are just a few!
5.) Think Gradual-If you want to "revamp" your wardrobe, don't go out and buy a whole new wardrobe at once. Start gradually adding in pieces that are more fitted to the style you're aiming for. Also think about pieces that you can add that will work well with items you currently have in your cloest. Once you pair the two, it may give you the look you're going for! For example, if you have a plain black dress, think about a fun hat or scarf or belt to get a cool boho vibe.

Hope y'all enjoyed these tips! I'm excited to start changing up my style a little bit and sharing some really cool pieces with you on the blog!

  5. I love these tips. I often feel unhappy with what's in my wardrobe especially since I don't have the disposable income that I would like. It's even hard for me to blog sometimes for that reason because I can't just buy buy buy. But these tips are extremely helpful. They will enable me to shop smart.

  7. I can definitely relate to feeling like this and Pinterest has always been a major source for me in getting me out of that rut. Also, stalking Olivia Palermo who is my ULTIMATE fashion muse! Seriously, she never gets it wrong! I love all the tips you've shared here, especially the one about gradually adding in pieces. When we feel unsatisfied with our wardrobes, we can so easily get into an impulsive mindset and want to add so many things at once, which can make everything that much more overwhelming and costly, too! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you enjoy your extended weekend!
